Human Biomechanics.

What is human biomechanics?

Biomechanics means movement and posture. It is the study of movement in the human body. This includes how muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments work together to produce movement. There are two subfields of study:

Statics – The study of systems that are in constant motion. It can be while rested (with no motion) or moving with constant velocity.

Dynamics – The study of systems in motion in which acceleration is present which may involve kinematics – the study of the motion of bodies with respect to time, displacement, velocity and speeds of movement

Sports biomechanics can help people to obtain optimal muscle recruitment and performance as well as preserve the body. As doctors of chiropractic, chiropractors can often detect and prevent a structural problem, that can lead to injury or even poor performance.

How can a chiropractor assist an athlete?

Normal wear and tear occur to almost every athlete’s body. While all chiropractor is skilled at relieving pain due to tension, there are chiropractors who specialize in sports medicine, like Dr Jacques Bezuidenhout. He is an Internationally Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner (ICCSP) which fits with his love of sport and treating sportspeople. Chiropractors such as Dr Jacques Bezuidenhout can help athletes by relieving their pain and helping them heal faster after an injury.

Athletic injuries are often caused by improper biomechanics or muscle imbalances in the spine. When the spine is brought into balance, the body’s nervous system, biomechanics, the performance level increases. Chiropractic care is non-invasive, and it can provide relief from injuries throughout the body, not just neck and back injuries. Athletes can easily end up with stiffness and pain in their joints. Spinal alignment issues may cause their range of motion to be limited, thereby inhibiting their overall athletic performance.

The goal of chiropractic treatments is to restore or enhance joint function while resolving joint inflammation and reducing pain. Chiropractors can also assist before starting a new exercise regimen or a sport with a full-body evaluation. Chiropractors can check your muscles and spine to detect imbalance and alleviate tension so that the body can work.

Chiropractic care gives athletes a drug-free alternative that can reduce, or even eliminate their pain. By continually keeping an athlete’s body in his/her form, he or she will train more efficiently and effectively year-round.
